Gathering Your Fellowship Unto Battle

June 7, 2012 by SerenityHunter Leave a Comment

Members of The Fellowship of the Ring

Lady Galadriel was only partially right when she spoke, "You are a Ring-bearer, Frodo. To bear a Ring of Power is to be alone ... This task was appointed to you, and if you do not find a way, no one will." Yes, it was Frodo's destiny to destroy the ring of power and in that sense he was alone, a burden that nearly destroyed him. However, he was anything but alone. He wielded a … [Read more...] about Gathering Your Fellowship Unto Battle

Harry telling Hermione that their plans never go right

Plans are wonderful things.  They help us organize our lives and provide a sense of control, right up until they go wrong.  Then panic sets in unless you're Harry Potter and Company.  As Harry once said to Hermione, “When have any of our plans actually worked? We plan, we get there, all hell breaks loose.” Hey, that's life.  Sometimes plans work and … [Read more...] about The Best Laid Plans of Harry Potter

Ziggy on the news

For the anxious soul there are countless sources of anxiety.  Some stressors are unavoidable, the mortgage must be paid, food put on the table, etc, but some stressors we choose and when we choose to let a stressor into our lives we should do so carefully. For myself, political news and opinion is a stressor, yet I grew up a news junkie and lived to absorb every morsel of … [Read more...] about Ziggy on Choosing Your Anxiety

Wisdom in Horoscopes. Really?

July 10, 2011 by Todd Leave a Comment

An artistic dial displaying astrological signs

Wisdom can be found just about anywhere, even in horoscopes.  I don’t put much stock into them, but they can be fun from time to time.  Below are a few bits of wisdom from a Sunday newspaper horoscope. Taurus - You long ago learned that it’s senseless to wait for the opportunity to tackle your plans.  Achievers don’t find time to get things done; they steal … [Read more...] about Wisdom in Horoscopes. Not bad advice from a comic strip.

It would make for an interesting experiemet (seriously), for someone to take 4-8 weeks and spend that time with a new routine that avoids following the news, following social media, and other unfiltered streams of infodumps between the moment the person wakes up and lunch time.

Basically, reclaim and redfine your ENTIRE morning for yourself and those around you. The rest of the world can wait until after lunch.
