Last night I was clearing out more than 8 years of old emails. It was an great way to thin out the clutter of life and reconnect with things long forgotten, much like sifting through an old foot looker or a shoebox full of mementos. Some of the memories were very good and others, I could live without; however, as the quote below suggests they are part of me regardless.
“What you need to know about the past is that no matter what has happened, it has all worked together to bring you to this very moment. And this is the moment you can choose to make everything new. Right now.” – Author unknown
Here is what I found lurking in the emails:
- Beautiful Young Lady – Emails from a former classmate whom I had a secret crush on back in law school. Maybe I’ll drop her a line and see if she is still around.
- Darker Days – Notes I compiled for a doctor during an extended illness. It was a reminder of how ill I was and how far I’ve come.
- My Dad’s Eyesight – I found one of the original emails I sent to an eye specialist at University of Kentucky. After pitching my dad’s case to the researcher he agreed to check out my dad and discovered a misdiagnosis. He eventually saved dad’s eyesight while prolonging his working life.
- The Rowing Foundation – I found dozens of emails related to a team I led while studying at the Mandel School for Nonprofit Management. We examined and interviewed a dozen members of a Cleveland area rowing group that was having some growing pains. The extended study led to a new name, new governing regulations that I helped shape and a bright new future. Learn more at: www.clevelandrows.org
- Photos – Some great photos of myself – a rare thing – that I’ll likely post to this site one day.
