When it comes to religion, theology, and the great questions of life is there really such a thing as an “easy read?” Some time ago my brother lent me the book Now, That’s a Good Question! by R.C Spoul, a theologian, pastor and teacher. For a book that tackles more than 300 questions about life and faith in Christ, it is a fairly easy read.
In most cases the answer to a question may require only a page or two so it is a very convenient book to pick up from time to time and flip through or read from start to finish. The answers typically provide just enough depth to educate and enlighten without turning into a dissertation and in a culture that breeds short attention spans that is valuable indeed.
A Sampling of Questions
- Throughout the Bible we are told to fear God. What does that mean?
- What is a miracle and do you think God still performs them today?
- Why does God allow random shootings, fatal accidents, and other horrible things to occur?
- Did Jesus ever laugh?
- How do you know the Bible is true?
- How can we know that the Bible is the true Word of God after so many interpretations?
- In Isaiah 45:7 God says, “I form light and create darkness. I make peace and create evil.” Why did he create Lucifer?
- Has Satan been given dominion over the earth until Jesus returns?
- Does the Bible tell us what Heaven will be like?
- Will we recognize each other in Heaven?
Although not specifically geared toward mental health, I can’t help but think it would strengthen someone’s spiritual life which in turn can bring its own serenity.
Do you have a favorite spiritual read that lifts your spirits and/or reassures you?
